There are many reasons we love wood wicks over cotton wicks. In this post we have listed a few of our most important reasons.
#1: Wood wicks are eco-friendly and clean burning!
Our wicks are manufactured 100% in the USA from FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified mills. The FSC is an independent, not-for-profit council designed to protect forests. What this means is that the wicks we use have been harvested sustainably and in an eco-friendly manner. After harvesting, the wood is not treated with chemicals, allowing for a clean burning wick.
#2: Wood wicks can have longer burn times!
Wood wicks can produce a slower, steadier burn. Couple that with all-natural waxes (also known to burn slower), means your candle can last forever! Okay, not forever, but perhaps longer than a traditional cotton wick candle.
#3: Woods wicks can create a better scent throw (what you smell when the candle burns)!
Due to their larger size, wood wicks have more even heat distribution. The better the heat distribution, the faster the candle can achieve a larger melt pool. When the melt pool is large enough, the scent is released from the candle and spreads throughout your space. Overall, what you achieve with a wood wick candle is a fragrance that disperses better and quicker after lighting.
#4: Wood wicks crackle!
I'm sure we all know that sound, specific to firewood. The crackle! Wood wicks, being wood themselves, crackle as well, just not as much as a rank of firewood does. Wood has natural small air pockets in it. When lit, these air pockets and any moisture in the wood heat up. When heated enough, the moisture and air pockets expand rapidly and combust, creating a crackle and popping sound. Since wood wicks are natural, each wick is slightly different than the next, depending on the amount of air pockets and moisture, and can crackle differently. The wax used in the candle can also affect how much of a crackle there is. For instance, candles made with coconut wax can crackle more than a soy wax candle.
#5: Aesthetically pleasing and modern appeal!
Since wood wicks are newer, some may consider them more modern than their cotton counterparts. The modern appeal of wood wicks can also be aesthetically pleasing and intriguing based on the decor in the room.
